‘Let’s (sit down and) Listen Together’
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood sat down with Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcom Jenkins to discuss police and community relations. After training Upper Darby PD in Racial Intelligence last October, the Philadelphia Citizen (below) wrote about it, that’s where Jenkins read it.
Jenkins read the article in the Philadelphia Citizen (below), and wanted to know more about RITE and what Chitwood’s officers learned. Click below or watch on NFL Films
COPS and their Feelings – Philadelphia Citizen
DEC. 05, 2017 The Philadelphia Citizen
“You wouldn’t expect a 70-something, 50-year police force veteran from South Philly to be, as the kids say, “woke”—that is, aware of the inequalities, cultural and legal, that beset us all.
Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood is that, and then some. On the Philadelphia Police Department’s his nickname was “Dirty Harry”—spares little time in discussing what he thinks is the truth about modern policing”
With the help of RITE Academy—a training company that helps cops better understand their prejudices, and build a more careful, friendly rapport with the neighborhood they serve—Chitwood intends to build a more considerate police force in Upper Darby.
