MCOLES Certified. This one-day training is OPEN to all Public Service Professionals.  \n  \n  \n  \n\nPTSD occurs after direct exposure to or witnessing of a traumatic event\, learning about the accidental or violent death of a close relative or friend\, or through repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of traumatic events.\n\n\nSymptoms of  PTSD are presented in:\n\nIntrusion symptoms\nAvoidance symptoms\nNegative alterations in cognitions and mood\nAlterations in arousal and reactivity\n\n  \nPTSD – The Silent Killer and Risk Monster\nNot recognizing PTSD developments in your personnel can be a real ‘risk monster’ waiting to hit your department with an unexpected event exposing a costly liability. This class will help you identify symptoms of PTSD\, provide proactive techniques\, Emotional Intelligence awareness\, and help mitigate risk. \nThe importance of officer wellness and PTSD awareness is often overlooked. This training provides an understanding of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Social Intelligence (SI) that helps the person\, the department\, and the community they serve. \n  \nWhy Recognizing PTSD Matters\n 1. An overall understanding of the PTSD can help recognize responses in others around you. Example: Seeing a PTSD symptom (like exaggerated startle response) will on a certain call. \n2. Knowing the symptoms of PTSD can help identify other issues. Example: If a person appears to be hearing voices and is not having a flashback to the traumatic event\, then this symptom might indicate a disorder\, such as schizophrenia. \n 3. Assist officers and others with PTSD.
